There is no term relating to the IRS more commonly misused (at least in the collection context) than IRS Revenue Agent. An IRS Revenue Agent conducts audits and has a background in accounting. More commonly, an IRS Revenue Officer is who comes calling on taxpayers scaring them into complying with the demands of the IRS.
