Deadline calculator
How long do you have?
Pick the notice you received and enter the date printed on it. The calculator counts the days set by the Internal Revenue Code and moves the last day past weekends and Washington, D.C. legal holidays, as section 7503 requires.
Last day to request a Collection Due Process hearing (Form 12153)
Enter the date to see your deadline.
A timely request generally suspends the levy while the hearing is pending. Miss it and you can still ask for an equivalent hearing for a limited time, but without the right to go to Tax Court afterward.
Authority: IRC section 6330(a)(3)(B).
Read the guide for this noticeBefore you rely on a date
- The date printed on the notice controls the count, not the day you opened it. If your notice prints a specific last day to respond, use that date.
- Do not wait for the last day. Send requests by certified mail with a return receipt, or use the delivery method the notice tells you to, and keep proof of the date you sent it.
- A phone call is not a filing. Where the law requires a written request or a court petition, calling the IRS does not stop the clock.
- This is an estimate, not legal advice. Special rules can change a deadline, including bankruptcy, a jeopardy assessment, or a notice sent to the wrong address. If the date is close, talk with a tax attorney today.
